Josie worked as a teacher in an inner-London primary school before home educating her two children. She began home educating in 2019, inspired by watching how her children’s learning naturally unfolded when it moved at their own pace, was guided by their curiosity and interests and stayed free from unnecessary pressure – conditions that can be tricky to support in a large class of 30. Home education has been freeing, eye-opening and incredibly rewarding for Josie’s family, but not without its challenges. For three years, she ran a weekly home education social group in London, allowing her to have many honest conversations with other parents about the realities of home ed life – not just their children’s learning, but the everyday practical and emotional challenges that come with this choice. Drawing on her experience as both teacher and home-educating parent, Josie now supports families in finding confidence and balance in their own approach to learning. Through her newsletter and website, The Home Ed Help, she shares guidance, practical ideas and encouragement and is always happy to connect with parents looking for support, ideas or reassurance.
